Steve: In America, it’s a physical therapist, known as a physical therapist. In Australia, England — Bill’s worked, I’ve worked — and also the rest of Europe, the industry is known as physiotherapy or your physiotherapist. But Bill, that doesn’t tell the whole story though, does it?

Bill: Well, I think “physical therapist” undersells what the role actually is in that often, we will plan whole rehabilitation programs or turn to sport programs. So as well as rendering physical assistance, we do really get involved in people’s lives. Helping them return to or improve to the point they want to be in their life.

There’s a fair bit of psychology in it as well. Because we work on people’s behaviours and we actually plane out their life if they have young children at home that could be relevant to how you’ll actually structure their program or if it’s workplace work. There’s a lot more to than just the physical.
